Polynesian Music and Sounds
Songs
The songs are often inspired by the melodies and movements
of nature. The sun, the moon, sea breezes, rain and the
sound of water falls are combined in a rich aural blend that
evokes an emotional response.
Instrumental
A collection of drummers playing in unison creates a unique
and traditional Polynesian atmosphere.
Traditional Chants
A customary speech introduces the performer(s) to the
audience, symbolising the challenge of one warrior (the
performer) to another warrior (the audience).
Solo Dance
The very popular performance done by the girls, capturing
the traditional spirit of the Polynesian region.
Traditional Instruments
Instruments include the ukulele, acoustic guitar, various
types of authentic tokere drums (also known as a ove or kaara),
bass drum and congo drums.
When all these instruments are
combined it produces a rich sound much like a big band,
typically producing an immediate and emotive response from the
appreciative audience.
